Win + Shift + S will capture a screen region from any application and copy it to clipboard powered by Snipping Tool’s new '/CLIP. Starting with the Creators Update, this shortcut will be a global hotkey an Operating System feature.

If you go into Microsoft Word or Google Docs, or some program, you can paste the screenshot into your document. Windows 10 Creators Update replaces OneNote’s popular screen clipping shortcut: Win + Shift + S. When you type this button on you keyboard, it takes a snapshot of your computer screen and saves it to your clipboard. Getting through the queue can take a couple hours atm. On a Windows machine, you need to find the PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard. That takes time, and is way slower (but apparently better with new fancytech they've deployed cloudside according to devs) than 2016's local OCR. It's close and fast enough but clearly a little less convenient.ĮDIT: Also, UWP/Win10store version does have OCR, it's just done serverside so it goes to the MS OCR thingy's processing queue. I tested the OS built-in quick snip (Win+Shift+S) and Ctrl+V-ing it into a page in UWP, and it does put a newline after the pasted screenshot so you can just quickly machinegun paste screenshots onto an existing page, but would need to have a small OneNote window open and select it before the Ctrl+V which you don't need in 2016. Most I use and then simply delete, but there are occasions when I need to save a screenshot for some future purpose.

I've mostly used the 2016 taskbar widget for grabbing quick part-of-the-screen screenshots to clipboard (which the new OS functions duplicate perfectly) but if you want to append new screenshots to an existing OneNote page without having OneNote open, yeah, I can see where the new flow would be inconvenient. As a professional blogger, I take a lot of screenshots on a daily basis. This support article on the differences between the legacy and UWP app totally overlooks this key point. I'm not aware of a way to recreate this functionality with the current tools in Win 10 and\or the UWP OneNote app. I tried to use the new Snip and Sketch in Win 1809, but I'm not willing to go back and manually deal with 20 separate open windows of content later + if Windows Update decides it's time to reboot my PC, those unsaved snips appear to be lost. Any workflow that requires me to take my mind and eyes off that content to save a snip is unacceptable, so copy\paste is out. I sit through a lot of shared meeting content most days, and rely on this feature of OneNote 2016 multiple times a day, nearly every day.
If you miss this stage, go to the next way. * Launch office OneNote 2013, uncheck the “Show when OneNote starts option” from poped up window and close it.
